Building your poker bankroll

Freerolls

A large number of online poker players, from novice to professional level, have built a bankroll without spending a single cent of their own money. You can actually build a bankroll from scratch by playing freeroll tournaments. Most poker rooms offer small-prize freerolls on a daily basis. Finish high in a few of these and you can build your bankroll from nothing.

Bonuses

All online poker rooms offer new players very nice signup bonuses, meaning they match your deposit with a bonus, based on a percentage. A typical bonus would be 100% up to $500. By depositing $100, you can be earning an extra $100 while you play through the original deposit. Bonuses are a great way to build your bankroll in online poker.

Poker Points

When you play real-money online poker games, you are consistently earning points. They may be called poker points, frequent player points, VIP points or something similar, but they all work in the same way. These points clear your pending bonuses, like the welcome bonus mentioned above. In most cases, they can also be converted to cash once you’ve earned enough points to begin converting. Points can also buy players into special tournaments.

VIP Program

Poker Rooms offers rewards to loyal players by offering VIP Programs. The more VIP points the player accumulates, the higher VIP status they get. If you’re a serious poker player, you can climb the VIP ladder very quickly. VIPs often get reload bonuses, special free tournament entries and cash rewards, an excellent way to keep building your bankroll on and off the virtual felt.

Best Rakeback

Another common promotion that can help players build a bankroll is called a Rakeback deal. Some online poker rooms will offer Rakeback rewards, provided you join the poker room via a 3rd party site that promotes Rakeback. Rakeback is not actively promoted by poker rooms themselves. Every time you contribute to a raked hand in ring games, you are awarded a percentage of the rake back in your bankroll – kind of like a discount coupon on poker tables. The best offer would be party poker rakeback as they offer up to 50%.

Increased Stakes

When you first start playing online poker, it’s best to start at the lowest possible limits and stakes. The players at these tables are generally the easiest to defeat, since they are the loosest with their chips. Once you’ve mastered a stakes level, move up to the next highest stakes. Never jump too far ahead or the competition will be too fierce. Stick to single level jumps and you can adjust your game accordingly while building your bankroll effectively.

Finding the Fish

As in the tip above, it is the competition that often determines the lucrative nature of a poker game. The term fish refers to very loose, inexperienced players who don’t attempt to use any kind of strategy at the tables. They simply play for the fun of it, relying on luck to win the few pots they do claim. And speaking of strategy…

Tight Poker Strategy

This tip goes back to the previous two bankroll building tips, playing the lowest levels and working your way up, and finding the fish. If you play a tight poker strategy against loose players, you are all but guaranteed to beat them in the long run. Conserve your chips on all junk hands, simply folding these cards away. Only move on with premium starting hands and the odds will always be in your favor.

Multi-Tabling

Another way to build a bankroll faster is to play multiple tables. Do not attempt multi-tabling until you are considerably experienced with online poker, and never multi-table heads-up games (the pace is too fast). Whether you’re playing multiple cash games or tournaments, multi-tabling is another great way to build a bankroll faster
